- MLOps: A bunch of stuff to deploy, rollback, monitor or just simply scraping ideas.
Widya Tutuko - Software Engineer
BuildingwhateverI feel like
Singapore-based engineer, pingponging mood between doing full-stack development, or infrastructure across software, trading, os or hardware stuff that I find interesting (mostly short lived, 3 days max and I get bored).
Now MLOps at Apple, was hardware engineering at Halliburton then fullstack and data-platform work at OCBC. The path runs from wire-level hardware to pass only-god-knows datagram around other people pipelines to distributed systems distributing nonsense to slopified services. Kubernetes-certified from KCNA to CKS, with a little capital-markets analytics credential (yes, dd 🦍 the right way 🤡) on the side. Yet I still dont know jack💩 about computer, tf are these CRDs and why assets markets sucking my 💸💸, but I wanna 140x my capital. Solution? YOLO with data 🔮🔮 & concurrency 🚀🚀🚀

Where I've made
an impact (maybe |:).
- Fullstack: built the AI and analytics platform end to end, with Python, React, SvelteKit, TypeScript, Tailwind, Node, Vite, Impala, Postgres, Mongo, bash, Trino, Hive and HDFS in the mix.
- Also looked after the infrastructure and internal tooling, plus a data-as-a-service layer: Hasura, k8s, Docker, bash, Python, Kafka, Yugabyte, Promtail, Loki, Prometheus and Grafana.
- Automated anything that could be automated, mostly with LabVIEW, MSSQL, Python and JavaScript.
- Wrote the test logic and kept the test systems for SPI, CAN and I2C interfaces going, customising them as needed.
- Stayed on the hook for the code and infrastructure behind those test systems.
- Redesigned electronic test systems so the product actually met its electrical specs, then updated the procedures and PADS schematics to match.
- Simulated the analog and digital systems that were failing the most, in MATLAB and Simulink.
- Led a roughly USD 800K capital-assets buy for a new product line, and got Procurement, R&D and Production on the same page for the handover.
- Helped the senior engineers on nuclear logging, acoustic logging and telemetry tools.
- Two MVP awards: one for tightening up HPHT slim porosity logging calibration, one for skipping the default power electronics and spinning a BLDC motor with simpler commutation so the test rig could travel.
- Plus a steady trickle of monthly improvement awards.
- Rebuilt a test module for analog testing of data-acquisition systems, which meant slowing neutron detection down in a porosity logging tool.
- Dug into the axis-Z induction tool receiver and got its malfunction rate down.

Side currents
Three obsessions that leak into the day job.
Programming
Python, Go, JavaScript, and k8s are sweet spots. The stack shifted from test rigs to data platforms, and the languages followed what needs to be solved.

Trading
A capital-markets and securities analysis credential (CMSA) backs the gambling. Markets are a long-running systems (eh0) problem, a portable casino one might say.

Weird computer experiments
Sliding-control projects, spraying udp packets between my rasps, self-hosted pipelines/compute cluster using all of my old laptops, smelling TCP or making my phone as k8s worker. The drawer where software and electronics refuse to stay separate.
